Bangalore (CCBI): On April 25, 2023, Pope Francis appointed Cardinal Filipe Neri Ferro, President of the CCBI, as one of the members of the Section for Fundamental Issues of Evangelization in the World (New Evangelization) of the Dicastery for Evangelization. The approaching Jubilee Year 2025, also known as the Holy Year, will be managed by this Section, under the direction of Archbishop Rino Fisichella.
Previously, on October 7, 2022, he had also been appointed one of the members of the Dicastery for Evangelization. On August 27, 2022, Pope Francis promoted Cardinal Filipe Neri Ferro to cardinal status. He was thus named the Cardinal-Priest of Santa Maria in Via.
Cardinal Filipe Neri Ferrão was born on January 20, 1953, and was consecrated as a priest on October 28, 1979. On December 20, 1993, he was appointed Auxiliary Bishop of the Archdiocese of Goa and Daman, and on April 10, 1994, he received Episcopal Ordination. He was named Archbishop of Goa and Daman and Patriarch "ad honorem" of the East Indies on December 12, 2003, and enthroned on March 21, 2004. He was elected President of the Conference of Catholic Bishops of India at its 31st Plenary Assembly which took place in Chennai in 2019.
