New Delhi - Applauding the Indian Coast Guard's adept execution of a mid-sea medical evacuation, the Chinese embassy has recognized their accomplishment in evacuating a Chinese citizen from the Panama-flagged research vessel MV Dong Fang Kan Tan No 2. The rescue operation took place approximately 200 kilometers off the coast of Mumbai in the Arabian Sea during the night of August 16-17, notwithstanding adverse weather conditions and the cover of darkness.
The Chinese Embassy in India tweeted, expressing their profound gratitude towards the @IndiaCoastGuard for their swift and proficient handling of the medical evacuation of a Chinese national in the Arabian Sea off Mumbai.
The Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre in Mumbai received information on Wednesday indicating that a crew member named Yin Weigyang, aboard the research vessel, had suffered a cardiac episode necessitating urgent medical attention. Prompt communication was established with the vessel, en route from China to the UAE. Essential telemedicine guidance was promptly provided.
Describing the audacious operation on Twitter, the Indian Coast Guard highlighted the evacuation carried out by their ALH MK-III helicopter from a distance of around 200 kilometers in the middle of the sea, amid challenging nocturnal conditions and harsh weather. The patient was experiencing symptoms of chest pain and cardiac arrest.
In pursuit of the most efficient evacuation approach and subsequent medical care, the patient was airlifted using the CG ALH MK-III helicopter and was provided with initial medical aid. Subsequently, he was handed over to the vessel's agent for further medical attention.
The swift and courageous operation executed by the CG ALH and CGAS Daman during the nighttime hours underscored their commitment to the principle of safeguarding lives at sea, exemplifying the Indian Coast Guard's motto: "We Protect".
