India Joins 'Bright Star-23' Military Exercise in Egypt Alongside USA, Saudi Arabia, Greece, and Qatar

New Delhi - The Indian Air Force (IAF) has embarked on its inaugural participation in Exercise 'BRIGHT STAR-23' held in Egypt. Notably, contingents from the United States of America, Saudi Arabia, Greece, and Qatar are also integral to this multinational endeavor.

The IAF confirmed this significant involvement on Sunday, marking a historic milestone. The Indian Air Force contingent for the exercise comprises five MiG-29 aircraft, along with two IL-78, two C-130, and two C-17 aircraft. Participating personnel include members from the IAF's elite Garud Special Forces, alongside representatives from the Numbers 28, 77, 78, and 81 Squadrons, according to an official statement from the IAF.

Departing on Sunday, the Indian Air Force contingent, facilitated by the Ministry of Defence (MoD), is en route to the 'BRIGHT STAR-23' exercise—a biennial, multidimensional, and tri-service engagement scheduled to take place at the Cairo (West) Air Base in Egypt from August 27 to September 16.

The IAF's transport aircraft are additionally tasked with airlifting approximately 150 personnel from the Indian Army. The primary objective of this exercise is to enhance the planning and execution of joint operations, fostering collaborative bonds across international borders. Such interactions not only nurture these ties but also contribute to strengthening strategic relationships among the participating nations. The MoD emphasized that IAF contingents participating in international flying exercises effectively serve as envoys in flight suits.

India and Egypt share a remarkable history of cooperation, notably collaborating on the development of aero-engines and aircraft during the 1960s. Additionally, Egyptian pilot training was conducted by Indian counterparts. Recent interactions between the Chief of Air Forces, Defence Minister, and Prime Minister of India, coupled with reciprocal visits, have further fortified the bonds between these two culturally rich nations. Their collaborative training efforts are regularly showcased through joint exercises involving their respective Armed Forces.
