New Delhi - During her address at the United Nations Security Council, India's Permanent Representative, Ruchira Kamboj, underscored the UN Charter's emphasis on resolving disputes through negotiations. She also made reference to Pakistan's comments in August at the UNSC regarding Kashmir, stating that "Their observations lack a factual basis."
Speaking at the UNSC Open Debate on Peace through Dialogue, Ruchira Kamboj, India's Permanent Representative to the UN, emphasized the current global challenges and stressed the need for an honest discussion on rebuilding trust in multilateral institutions. She reiterated the UN Charter's call for resolving disputes through negotiation and highlighted historical instances where bilateral, regional, and sub-regional mechanisms have proven effective in reaching mutually acceptable solutions. Kamboj expressed India's support for engaging with regional and sub-regional organizations, in line with the UN Charter.
In the context of peacekeeping efforts, she stressed the importance of collaborating with regional forces and enhancing the capabilities of potential regional partners. Kamboj also emphasized the need for peace operations to consider exit strategies from their inception.
Responding to Pakistan's comments at the UN Security Council in August, India's Permanent Representative reiterated that Pakistan's assertions are unfounded and baseless. India categorically rejects these claims. She referred to Pakistan Ambassador Munir Akram's mention of the Kashmir issue during the debate, stating that "Pakistan has once again misused the Security Council's August forum. Their assertions have no factual basis and are therefore entirely dismissed." Kamboj further emphasized that the Union Territories of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh are integral parts of India, stemming from Jammu and Kashmir's legal, complete, and irrevocable accession to India in 1947.
