In the aftermath of the tragic series of shootings that occurred in Maine on Wednesday, family members have come forward to identify some of the victims. Among those lost are Bob Violette, a 76-year-old retiree and passionate bowler, as well as bar manager Joseph Walker. Authorities have confirmed that at least 18 individuals lost their lives, with over a dozen more sustaining injuries.

While eight of the deceased have been identified, their names have not been officially released by the police. Family members have chosen to share their stories with the media. Cassandra, Violette's daughter-in-law, identified him as a hero who protected a group of children at the Just-In-Time bowling alley during the attack. Violette, a lifelong Lewiston resident, was deeply connected to his community, known for his warmth and care for those around him.

Described as an individual who wouldn't let you leave without a hug and a kiss on the cheek, Violette, a former Sears mechanic, dedicated his retirement years to his passion for bowling. He ran a youth bowling league, even involving his eldest grandsons, and captured their bowling moments with iPads and iPhones he'd purchased.

Cassandra emphasized his love for the children, which extended to all of them.
Another victim, Asselin, was confirmed by her brother as one of the victims. She was at her part-time job at the bowling alley and bravely attempted to call 911 when the shooting began. Tragically, she lost her life in the process, leaving behind a devastated adult son. Her brother described her as a caring and protective sister who had always been there for her family.

Joseph Walker, aged 56, worked at Schemengees Bar and Grill, one of the locations targeted by the gunman. His father, Leroy Walker, who is a city councilor in Auburn, confirmed Joseph's death. Joseph had made a courageous attempt to confront the assailant and tragically lost his life during the encounter.

Leroy shared the heart-wrenching experience of receiving news of his son's death 14 hours after the shooting, and the anguish that enveloped their family during that agonizing time.

As of Thursday afternoon, law enforcement continues its search for the suspected gunman, underscoring the ongoing investigation into this devastating event.
