Kolkata: Three coaches of the Secunderabad-Shalimar Superfast Express derailed early this morning near Howrah, in West Bengal. The incident took place around 5:30 am near Nalpur, approximately 40 km from Kolkata, as the weekly train traveling between Howrah and Hyderabad was passing through the area. Among the derailed coaches, one was a parcel van, while the other two were passenger coaches—both third AC and third AC economy class.

Thankfully, there were no reports of casualties or serious injuries. According to South Eastern Railway (SER), the derailment occurred at 5:31 am as the train was transitioning from the middle track to the outer track at Nalpur station in the Kharagpur Division.

An accident relief train and medical teams were dispatched from Santragachhi and Kharagpur to the scene to assist with recovery and provide medical support. Buses were also arranged to transport affected passengers to their intended destinations.

A departmental investigation will be conducted to determine the cause of the derailment, confirmed SER spokesperson Omprakash Charan Sai.
