Nicaragua: Pope Francis has written a pastoral letter to the faithful in Nicaragua, encouraging them to maintain their trust in God amid the challenges they are facing, particularly as they celebrate the Novena of the Immaculate Conception.
In his message, dated December 2, 2024, the Pope expressed his solidarity with the people of Nicaragua, urging them to never lose faith despite the difficult circumstances, including the socio-political crisis affecting the nation and the Church. Many faith-based organizations have been forced to close, and several priests and bishops have been expelled or arrested.
Pope Francis reminded the Nicaraguan faithful to always rely on God’s loving Providence as their “only sure guide” and to hold fast to their “filial trust” in God and loyalty to the Church—two pillars that, according to him, illuminate their lives. He also reflected on the deep connection between Nicaraguans and the Virgin Mary, praising their devotion and the role of the Immaculate Conception in Nicaraguan faith and culture.
Acknowledging the difficulties faced by the people, the Pope encouraged them to draw strength from the celebration of the Immaculate Conception, particularly as the Church looks ahead to the Jubilee Year of 2025. He reminded them of the power of prayer, particularly the Rosary, as a means of spiritual connection and a source of grace.
The Pope concluded his letter by invoking the intercession of the Virgin Mary and offering a prayer for peace and divine grace for the faithful, assuring them of his prayers and closeness during these trying times.
