Rome: Cardinal Mar George Koovakad was warmly received by the Syro-Malabar faithful in Rome during a grand celebration held at the Basilica of St. Anastasia, a historic church entrusted to the Syro-Malabar Church by Pope Francis. The vibrant reception took place yesterday afternoon and saw the participation of numerous bishops, priests, religious, and lay people.

The event began with a solemn Holy Mass presided over by Cardinal Koovakad, followed by a congratulatory gathering, cultural programs, and a love feast.

During the Divine Liturgy, Mar Raphael Thattil, Major Archbishop of the Syro-Malabar Church, delivered an inspiring sermon. Cardinal Mar George Alencherry shared his blessings in a benedictory speech during the congratulatory meeting.

In his address, Cardinal Koovakad expressed heartfelt gratitude for the blessings God has bestowed upon him through countless individuals. He humbly attributed his elevation to cardinal to God’s providence rather than his own merit or excellence. The Cardinal urged the faithful to continue offering prayers for his ministry.
