At the Sunday Angelus, Pope Francis reflected on the profound message of Christmas, emphasizing how it reveals God’s unwavering effort to reach every person, no matter where they are, even in the darkest times. Pope underscored the power of God’s love, which overcomes all obstacles and illuminates life’s path despite challenges and rejections.
Reflecting on the Gospel, Pope Francis highlighted the significance of Jesus’ Incarnation as a powerful demonstration of God’s love breaking through walls, divisions, and closed hearts. The Son of God chose to share in the humble life of Mary and Joseph, embracing the hardships they faced.
“God never stops,” Pope said. “He finds a thousand ways to reach each and every one of us, wherever we are… opening even in the darkest nights of humanity windows of light that the darkness obscures.”
In a world yearning for light, hope, and peace, Pope Francis noted the immense challenges created by human conflict and despair. Yet, Scripture reminds us that God’s love is always present. Pope urged everyone to follow God’s example by bringing light to others:
“We are called to imitate the God of love, opening up glimmers of light wherever we can, with whomever we meet, in any context.”
Pope Francis encouraged Christians to overcome fear and take the first step toward building brighter, more compassionate relationships. “Throw open bright windows of proximity to those who are suffering, of forgiveness, of compassion and reconciliation,” he said, emphasizing that such actions make life’s journey clearer, safer, and more hopeful for all.
He linked this invitation to the spirit of the Jubilee, describing it as a time to be messengers of hope. “This,” Pope Francis affirmed, “is the way of salvation.”
Concluding his reflection, Pope Francis invited everyone to reflect personally, asking, “How can I open a window of light in my environment and in my relationships? Where can I be a glimmer of light that lets God’s love pass through?” He prayed that Mary, "the star that leads us to Jesus," might inspire all believers to be shining witnesses of the Father’s love.
Following the Angelus, Pope Francis renewed his fervent appeals for peace in conflict-ridden regions, including Ukraine, Palestine, Israel, Lebanon, Syria, Myanmar, and Sudan.
"Let us continue to pray for peace," he said, calling on the international community to act decisively to ensure respect for humanitarian law.
Pope passionately condemned the targeting of civilians, schools, hospitals, and workplaces. “No more striking civilians! No more striking schools or hospitals! No more striking workplaces!” he pleaded, reiterating, “War is always a defeat, always!”
As Christmas approaches, Pope’s message is a powerful reminder of the enduring hope and transformative light of God’s love in a world longing for peace and compassion.
