Persistent Downpour Ahead: Orange Alert in Four Northern Districts, Yellow Alert Across Eight Others

Thiruvananthapuram: The state is set to remain under wet and stormy skies as the spell of heavy rain shows no sign of abating. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange alert for four northern districts today—Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur, and Kasaragod—warning of intense rainfall activity and potential disruption.

Meanwhile, a yellow alert has been declared in eight districts—Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Ernakulam, Idukki, Thrissur, Palakkad, and Malappuram—indicating a moderate chance of isolated heavy showers.

The IMD warns that the rainfall could range between 64.5 mm and 115.5 mm within 24 hours, which qualifies as heavy rain. Thunderstorms are also likely to accompany the showers, increasing the risk of localized flooding and damage.

Additionally, with persistent rough sea conditions, the possibility of coastal erosion looms large, especially along vulnerable shoreline areas. Authorities urge residents to remain alert and follow official advisories.
