DGP Chandrasekhar Warns of Growing Narcotic Terrorism; Kerala to Launch Joint Anti-Drug Operation

Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala Director General of Police Ravada A. Chandrasekhar has raised serious concerns about the rise of narcotic terrorism across the country, noting that India is witnessing an alarming influx of foreign-made synthetic drugs, especially from Pakistan and Afghanistan.

Addressing the media, DGP Chandrasekhar stated that while Kerala is currently not facing narcotic terrorism, the threat is national in scope and demands urgent, coordinated action. He revealed that the Kerala Police will work closely with central agencies to develop a comprehensive plan to combat the growing menace of drug trafficking into the state.

To intensify the crackdown, Chandrasekhar announced that the state will soon launch a large-scale, multi-agency operation targeting drug networks. This joint initiative will involve various departments and enforcement units, aiming to disrupt the operations of the drug mafia and prevent Kerala from becoming a transit or target for narcotic smuggling.

Reiterating his commitment to public service, the DGP also emphasized the need for a humane and responsive police force. He urged officers to treat every individual who approaches a police station with empathy and respect, acknowledging the emotional distress often carried by complainants. “Understanding their pain and providing timely help is part of our duty,” he remarked.

While addressing the state’s crime scenario, Chandrasekhar clarified that Kerala continues to maintain a relatively low crime rate compared to national averages. However, he noted an apparent rise in the crime statistics, attributing it to improved enforcement and the registration of all reported crimes, including minor and cyber offences.

He also flagged a noticeable increase in financial fraud cases, particularly digital scams and identity-based fraud, urging the public to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities promptly.

The DGP’s remarks come at a time when drug-related arrests and seizures have been on the rise across southern India, prompting greater concern over international smuggling routes and the role of organized networks. His statements underline Kerala Police’s resolve to stay ahead of the curve in tackling complex, cross-border criminal threats.
