Changanassery Cathedral Becomes Hub of Expatriate Celebration as Archdiocese Marks 10th Anniversary of Global Apostolate with Cultural Fest and Tributes

Changanassery: The historic St. Mary’s Cathedral in Changanassery echoed with memories, stories, and celebration as expatriates from across the globe gathered for the 10th anniversary of the Expatriate Apostolate of the Archdiocese of Changanassery. The event not only marked a decade of the apostolate's mission but also turned the cathedral parish hall into a vibrant meeting ground for Malayali expatriates and their families.

Archbishop Emeritus Mar Joseph Perunthottam formally inaugurated the event, reflecting on the unique bond between the expatriate faithful and their home Church. He noted that the expatriate community continues to be an extension of the mother Church beyond geographical borders and urged them to take pride in their heritage and faith. His words resonated with the hundreds of attendees who traveled from various countries and Indian states to participate.

Presiding over the event, Archbishop Mar Thomas Tharayil highlighted the immense role of expatriates in both ecclesiastical and societal development. “The Church and society have grown through the sweat and sacrifice of our expatriate community. Their contributions to the nation’s economic and social fabric are invaluable,” he said, acknowledging the dual role many play as faith leaders and social contributors in their adopted countries.

Dignitaries and clergy added to the significance of the day. Changanassery MLA Job Michael, Vicar Generals Monsignor Antony Ethakattu and Monsignor Mathew Changankary, Director Fr. Treji Puthuveettikkalam, Assistant Director Fr. Jijo Marattukalam, FCC Provincial Superior Sr. Brigi, and various expatriate coordinators from around the globe including Sibi Vaniyapurakkal (Central), Biju Mattancherry (GCC), and Jo Kavalam (Global) addressed the gathering with messages of gratitude, unity, and faith.

As part of the celebrations, thirteen expatriates who made commendable social contributions were honored, along with children of expatriates who excelled in their Plus Two examinations. Their achievements were celebrated as symbols of the expatriate community’s resilience and excellence.

The event also featured a rich cultural segment that showcased the global diversity of the expatriate community. Youths and adults presented traditional and contemporary performances from different countries, adding color and emotion to the day. The UAE Chapter staged a special program titled “The Message of Hope”, along with a short play “Parichamuttukalai”, conveying the spiritual theme of the 2025 Jubilee Year.

What began as a commemoration turned into a heartfelt reunion and a reaffirmation of identity, faith, and service. For the expatriate faithful of the Changanassery Archdiocese, this event was not just a celebration it was a homecoming.
