New Delhi: Adani Power Ltd has secured a major boost to its power generation portfolio after receiving a Letter of Award (LoA) from MP Power Management Company Ltd (MPPMCL) for the supply of electricity from a new 800 MW ultra-supercritical thermal power plant in Anuppur district, Madhya Pradesh. The announcement was made on Saturday, underscoring the conglomerate’s growing role in bolstering India’s energy security amid rising consumption patterns driven by industrialisation and rapid urbanisation.
The company said it would invest nearly ₹10,500 crore in setting up the state-of-the-art facility along with related infrastructure. According to Adani Power, the project is designed to address Madhya Pradesh’s surging energy requirements, ensuring a steady and affordable supply of power for households, businesses, and industries. The ultra-supercritical technology, considered more efficient than conventional coal-fired methods, will be employed to optimise performance and reduce environmental footprint.
S.B. Khyalia, Chief Executive Officer of Adani Power, emphasised the significance of the new project, stating: “As India’s power demand continues to rise, driven by rapid economic growth, especially base load power, it is imperative to invest in robust energy infrastructure. The Anuppur plant will play a pivotal role in ensuring reliable, affordable, and competitively priced power, while also strengthening Madhya Pradesh’s energy security.” He further highlighted the company’s long-term commitment to sustainability, capacity expansion, and advanced technologies.
Adani Power emerged as one of the lowest bidders in a fiercely competitive process, securing the award at a tariff of ₹5.838 per kWh. The plant, to be developed under the Design, Build, Finance, Own, and Operate (DBFOO) model, is expected to be commissioned within 54 months of the appointed date. Coal linkage for the project has already been allocated under the Central Government’s SHAKTI Policy, ensuring a steady fuel supply to the facility once operational.
Beyond electricity supply, the project promises to deliver significant socio-economic benefits to Madhya Pradesh. Adani Power estimates that 6,000–7,000 jobs will be generated during the construction phase, while around 1,000 permanent positions will be created once operations commence.
This latest win adds to Adani Power’s growing list of large-scale projects across India. Over the past 12 months, the company has secured multiple major power supply orders, including a 6,600 MW composite solar-thermal project for Maharashtra (September 2024), a 1,600 MW greenfield thermal plant for Uttar Pradesh (May 2025), and a 2,400 MW thermal plant for Bihar (August 2025). Together, these projects underline the group’s strategy to consolidate its position as India’s largest private sector thermal power producer, while also advancing its renewable energy portfolio through Adani Green Energy.
With India’s energy demand projected to double over the next decade, the Anuppur project is expected to serve as a cornerstone in ensuring a stable and efficient power supply for Madhya Pradesh, contributing both to the state’s growth and the nation’s long-term energy resilience.
