Syro Malabar USA Convention 2026 set to celebrate 25 years of faith and community in Chicago

Chicago: The Syro Malabar Catholic community in the United States is preparing for a landmark gathering as it celebrates the 25th anniversary of the St. Thomas Syro Malabar Catholic Diocese of Chicago. The Syro Malabar USA Convention 2026, taking place from July 9 to 12, 2026, at McCormick Place in downtown Chicago, promises four days of spiritual and cultural celebrations, community building, and youth engagement. Each day will begin at 9:00 am and feature a wide range of sessions, workshops, and talks designed to inspire and unite the Syro Malabar faithful.

This Silver Jubilee convention marks a quarter-century since the establishment of the first Syro Malabar diocese outside India on March 13, 2001. From its humble beginnings, the diocese has grown to 52 parishes and 35 missions, serving over 87,000 Syro Malabar Catholics nationwide. The event also honors Bishop Emeritus Mar Jacob Angadiath, whose leadership laid the foundation for the thriving community, and celebrates the continued guidance of Bishop Mar Joy Alappatt.

In a message to the faithful, Bishop Mar Joy Alappatt said that the Jubilee is not only a moment to remember the blessings of the past, but also to renew the community's commitment to their mission in the United States. He warmly invited families, youth, clergy, and friends to come together in Chicago for the convention.

The four-day convention will feature daily Holy Qurbana, adoration, praise and worship, spiritual talks, confession, and healing ministries, fostering deep spiritual growth. Cultural nights will showcase performances by Syro Malabar movie celebrities and talented parish artists, while youth and young adult programs include breakout sessions, social events, Lake Michigan cruises, sports, and praise nights.

Families can look forward to a Sports and Family Day, with indoor fun zones and children’s activities promoting community bonding. Attendees can also enjoy Chicago tours, including lakefront experiences, shopping, and dining, alongside unique events such as a Night Cruise, DJ Fest, rooftop socials, and a grand banquet to conclude the celebration.

Organizers emphasize that the convention is more than a gathering. It is a vibrant movement of faith, culture, and community, celebrating the past 25 years while inspiring a renewed mission for the future of the Syro Malabar Catholic community in the United States.
