Winter Session of Parliament Set for December 1–19, Announces Kiren Rijiju

New Delhi: India’s Winter Session of Parliament will convene from December 1 to December 19, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju announced on Friday. The decision, approved by President Droupadi Murmu, comes just days after the Bihar Assembly elections, setting the stage for a politically charged session.

Rijiju, in a post on X (formerly Twitter), said the government is “looking forward to a constructive and meaningful Session that strengthens our democracy and serves the aspirations of the people.” His statement reflects the Centre’s intent to focus on legislative progress, though political observers anticipate an intense atmosphere inside the House.

The upcoming session is expected to be contentious, with the Opposition gearing up to challenge the government on several issues, including the nationwide Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of voter lists and alleged vote fraud cases reported from Haryana and Maharashtra. These concerns have already sparked strong reactions across party lines, making them likely flashpoints during the proceedings.

Coming in the immediate aftermath of the Bihar elections, the Winter Session carries significant political weight. Analysts suggest that opposition parties will attempt to leverage post-election momentum to question the government’s handling of electoral transparency and governance reforms.

With a packed legislative agenda expected to unfold over the 19-day period, the Winter Session will test both the ruling coalition’s floor management and the Opposition’s unity ahead of the crucial budget year.
