Amravati: The diocese of Amravati came alive with a celebration of service and solidarity as social workers, NGO leaders, clergy, and lay representatives gathered at JVS Paratwada for the Jubilee of Social Workers. Under the inspiring theme “Pilgrims of Hope,” the event highlighted the Church’s commitment to extending its social outreach and fostering compassionate engagement with marginalized communities.
During the inaugural session, Bishop Malcolm Sequeira emphasized the Jubilee’s dual purpose: spiritual renewal and a strengthened dedication to uplifting the poorest sections of society. He called upon all participants to embrace service not only as a duty but as a living expression of faith, unity, and hope for the future.
The programme featured two intensive sessions led by Br. Varghese Theckanath SG, Director of the Montfort Social Institute. His presentations addressed contemporary social challenges and proposed practical, actionable strategies to empower communities. Br. Theckanath encouraged participants to adopt rights-based, people-centered approaches and to strengthen coordination among the diocese’s social initiatives for greater impact.
In addition, directors of diocesan-affiliated NGOs shared progress updates on their ongoing projects, providing valuable insights and fostering an environment for collaboration and mutual learning. These exchanges enabled participants to identify best practices, explore joint initiatives, and envision a more integrated approach to social service across the diocese.
The Jubilee of Social Workers in Amravati was more than a celebration it was a reaffirmation of faith in action, a gathering of committed hearts, and a platform to inspire renewed dedication toward building resilient, empowered communities across the region.
