CRPF Unveils Three-Tier Plan to Wipe Out Militancy in Jammu and Kashmir

Srinagar: The Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) has reaffirmed its resolve to completely eradicate terrorism from Jammu and Kashmir, outlining a clear three-pronged strategy focused on strong security measures, preservation of public normalcy, and the decisive elimination of militancy across the Union Territory.

The renewed approach was highlighted during a two-day visit to Kashmir by CRPF Director General G.P. Singh, who held a series of high-level meetings with senior officers and field commanders. Singh urged personnel at all levels to remain focused, disciplined and mission-oriented to achieve the long-term goal of lasting peace in the region.

As the world’s largest paramilitary force, the CRPF has deployed nearly one-third of its total strength in Jammu and Kashmir. The force plays a pivotal role in counter-terrorism operations and in maintaining law and order, working closely with the Army and the Jammu and Kashmir Police as part of an integrated security grid.

During the visit, the CRPF chief reviewed the prevailing security situation against the backdrop of intensified counter-terror operations. According to officials, dozens of such operations are conducted daily across the region, with CRPF units deeply involved in intelligence-based actions, area domination and support to other security agencies.

In an official statement, the force said that the Director General chaired a comprehensive security review at the CRPF Group Centre in Srinagar, where he stressed the need for a balanced approach combining firm security responses with efforts to sustain peace and normal life for civilians. The three-fold focus, the statement said, aims to ensure that militancy is not only controlled but completely uprooted.

Even as the meeting was underway in Srinagar, security forces were engaged in a major counter-terror operation in the Kishtwar district of Jammu. The ongoing operation in the rugged and snow-covered Chatroo area has stretched over two weeks, making it one of the longest and most challenging encounters in recent times. Army units, CRPF personnel and Jammu and Kashmir Police teams have been jointly battling terrorists hiding in the difficult mountainous terrain.

Fresh gunfire was reported during the operation, with three soldiers sustaining injuries. This marked the fourth intense exchange of fire in the area over the past fortnight. Earlier, on January 18, a paratrooper lost his life and seven others were injured during an encounter in the same zone. Despite repeated contact, the terrorists have so far managed to evade capture, officials said.

As part of his visit, Singh also toured the CRPF Group Centre in Srinagar, where he assessed operational readiness and interacted directly with jawans. He listened to their concerns and assured them that issues related to welfare and working conditions would be addressed, emphasizing that the morale and well-being of personnel remain a top priority for the force.

The CRPF leadership said the intensified strategy reflects the force’s long-term commitment to restoring enduring peace in Jammu and Kashmir while ensuring that security forces remain vigilant, prepared and responsive to evolving threats.
