London: The United Kingdom has expressed serious concern over Israel’s ongoing strikes in Lebanon, saying the attacks are causing heavy damage and could worsen tensions in the region.
UK Foreign Secretary Yvette Cooper said the situation is deeply damaging and warned that continued violence may increase instability across the Middle East.
Israel has carried out airstrikes targeting positions linked to Hezbollah in different parts of Lebanon, including Beirut and southern areas. The attacks have resulted in many deaths and injuries, raising concern among international leaders.
The UK pointed out that the current ceasefire involving the United States and Iran does not include Lebanon. It said this gap is risky and could lead to a wider conflict if not addressed. Britain is now calling for Lebanon to be included in the ceasefire efforts to help reduce tensions.
At the same time, the UK has also raised concern about growing tensions around the Strait of Hormuz, an important route for global oil transport. The government said the passage should remain open and free for international shipping.
The UK opposed any move to charge ships passing through the strait, warning that such actions could disrupt global trade and affect energy supplies.
The United Nations has also called for restraint, as fears grow that the situation could expand into a wider regional conflict.
With fighting continuing and tensions rising, global leaders are urging dialogue and quick action to prevent further escalation and to protect stability in the region.
