Patna: Samrat Choudhary took oath as the 24th Chief Minister of Bihar on Wednesday, becoming the first leader from the Bharatiya Janata Party to hold the top post in the state.
The swearing in ceremony was held in Patna in the presence of senior leaders and officials. His appointment marks a major political change in Bihar, where regional parties had dominated leadership for many years.
Choudhary’s rise comes after the resignation of Nitish Kumar, who had been a central figure in the state’s politics for nearly two decades. His exit signals the end of a long political phase and opens a new chapter in the state’s governance.
Before taking over as chief minister, Choudhary served as deputy chief minister and played a key role in strengthening his party’s position in the state. He was later chosen as the leader of the party and its alliance, clearing the way for his elevation.
Political observers see this development as a turning point. It reflects the growing influence of the Bharatiya Janata Party in Bihar and a shift in the balance of power within the ruling alliance. It also indicates the party’s strategy to expand its leadership role in key states.
Choudhary belongs to the Kushwaha community, an important group among backward class voters in Bihar. His appointment is expected to have a social and electoral impact as the state prepares for future political contests.
With a new leader at the helm, expectations are rising among people for stable governance and development. The coming months will show how the new government shapes Bihar’s political and economic direction.
