New Delhi: In a significant development for one of India’s leading youth and community organizations, former Supreme Court judge Kurian Joseph has been elected as the National President of the Young Men's Christian Association (YMCA) in India, opening a new chapter in his longstanding commitment to public life.
Born on November 30, 1953, in Kerala, Justice Kurian Joseph began his legal journey after graduating from Government Law College, Ernakulam. He started his practice at the Kerala High Court, gradually building a reputation for legal acumen and integrity. His judicial career progressed steadily, culminating in his appointment as a judge of the Kerala High Court, and later as the Chief Justice of the Himachal Pradesh High Court in 2010.
In March 2013, he was elevated to the Supreme Court of India, where he served until his retirement in November 2018. During his tenure, he became widely respected for his unwavering commitment to judicial accountability, transparency, and the safeguarding of constitutional principles. His contributions were particularly noted in several landmark constitutional cases, where his opinions often reflected a deep concern for justice and democratic values.
