Sudha Murty, chairperson of the Infosys Foundation and co-founder of Infosys is also a well-known author, philanthropist and wife of Nayaran Murthy and the mother-in-law of UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak was confronted with an uncomfortable situation at London airport. Immigration officers did not believe that her address in the capital city was actually 10 Downing Street!
In a recent appearance on comedian Kapil Sharma's show, the renowned author, who is celebrated for her remarkable sense of humor, shared an intriguing predicament. Sudha Murty revealed that she often encounters a peculiar challenge: many individuals find it hard to believe that she is the mother of Akshata Murty, the First Lady of the United Kingdom, and even more astonishingly, the mother-in-law of the UK's Prime Minister, Rishi Sunak.
The author humorously attributed this phenomenon to the deceptive nature of appearances. During her appearance on the show, Sudha Murty recounted an incident where an immigration officer in the UK refused to believe her residential address when she wrote down "10 Downing Street" — the official residence and office of the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom.
On one occasion, while I was in London, they asked me for my residential address. I had my elder sister accompanying me, and I contemplated whether I should write '10 Downing Street.' After all, my son also resides there in the UK, but I couldn't recall his exact address. Nevertheless, I mustered the courage and wrote down '10 Downing Street.' That immigration officer glanced at me with disbelief and exclaimed, 'Are you joking?!'
"I responded by saying, 'No, I am telling you the truth.' He presumed I was pulling his leg. It's hard for anyone to believe that a simple 72-year-old lady like me could be the mother-in-law of the Prime Minister," she revealed during her appearance on the show.
During the episode, Sudha Murty was accompanied by renowned producer Guneet Monga, who recently won an Oscar, and acclaimed actor Raveena Tandon, who was honored with the Padma Shri, the fourth highest civilian award. In April, Sudha Murty herself was bestowed with the Padma Bhushan at a ceremony held in Rashtrapati Bhavan, New Delhi.
In a statement made last month, Sudha Murty expressed that her daughter, Akshata Murty, played a significant role in making her husband the Prime Minister. Rishi Sunak's rapid rise to power has garnered attention in the past, but according to his mother-in-law, it was her daughter who facilitated his ascent.
A video of Sudha Murty's remarks went viral, where she can be heard saying, "I made my husband a businessman. My daughter made her husband the Prime Minister of the UK." She continued by highlighting the influence and transformative power of a wife, stating, "The reason is the glory of the wife. See how a wife can change a husband. But I could not change my husband. I made my husband a businessman, and my daughter made her husband the Prime Minister," as conveyed in her Instagram post.
