Washington: The U.S. Department of Justice has released a striking new report accusing the Biden administration of fostering a climate of anti-Christian bias across multiple federal agencies. The 48-page document, titled “Eradicating Anti-Christian Bias Within the Federal Government,” marks the first publication of the Task Force to Eradicate Anti-Christian Bias, a body established in February by President Donald Trump and led by Attorney General Pam Bondi.
According to the report, the Biden administration presided over what it described as a “consistent and systematic pattern of discrimination” against Christians, particularly Catholics. It argues that Christianity, despite shaping American history and contributing to the nation’s political and humanitarian foundations, was marginalized and targeted by federal policies in recent years. “Where there should have been equal justice under law, there was unequal treatment,” the report declares, asserting that Christian individuals, churches, and convictions were singled out for “disfavored treatment.”
The DOJ’s assessment highlights a series of alleged incidents across government departments. At the Justice Department itself, the task force criticized the prosecution of Catholic pro-life activists under the Freedom of Access to Clinic Entrances (FACE) Act during Biden’s term. Around two dozen Christians were imprisoned for demonstrations outside abortion clinics, while the law was not enforced to protect churches or pro-life centers from vandalism. These activists were later pardoned by Trump, with the report framing the prosecutions as emblematic of a broader anti-Christian approach.
The report also pointed to a controversial FBI memorandum in 2023, which identified “radical-traditionalist” Catholics as potential domestic terrorism threats. It called this a particularly egregious example of bias, warning that such classifications stigmatized faith-based communities.
Other federal agencies were also faulted. The State Department was accused of discriminatory hiring practices and of being less willing to grant leave for Christian holidays compared with other faiths. The report alleged that the department actively promoted “radical LGBTQ gender ideology” through mandatory pronoun policies and rainbow flag displays, which it said conflicted with the conscience of Christian employees. Additionally, it accused the administration of failing to adequately respond to global attacks on Christians and of limiting humanitarian aid to Christian populations compared with others.
The Department of Defense, the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, and the Department of Labor were criticized for denying or delaying religious exemptions from the COVID-19 vaccine mandate, disproportionately affecting Catholics and other Christian personnel. The Department of Housing and Urban Development was cited for allegedly removing social media posts celebrating Palm Sunday, Good Friday, and Easter, while leaving intact posts honoring Pride Month, Ramadan, and Diwali. Meanwhile, the Department of Labor was singled out for closing its Office of Faith-Based Initiatives and replacing it with a Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) office.
Throughout the report, the task force argued that these examples represent a wider institutional bias. It concluded that “the evidence uncovered is unmistakable: During the Biden administration, people of faith, particularly Christians, were repeatedly subjected to anti-religious bias at the hands of their own government.”
The task force, which brings together representatives from across federal agencies, pledged to continue its work. A more comprehensive report, including expanded findings and formal policy recommendations, is expected to be released by February 2026. The group said its mission is not only to address past grievances but to ensure that “the federal government will never again be permitted to turn its power against people of faith.”
