Formators Chart Fresh Vision for Mission 2033 During Goa Renewal Meet

Goa: A five-day spiritual and intellectual renewal programme for early-stage (Juniorate) formators, organized by the CCBI VSCR Commission, concluded at Shanti Sadan, Benaulim, on November 24. Designed as a journey of grace, discernment, and renewal, the gathering drew 29 formators who arrived with openness and returned deeply strengthened in the Holy Spirit. Through a harmonious blend of thoughtful liturgy, meaningful sharing, and practical sessions, the programme offered each participant an experience that nourished both head and heart.

The sessions provided new insights into the contemporary challenges of formation. Engaging modules on self-awareness, emotional stability, leadership qualities, and mentoring skills invited formators to reflect more deeply on their mission. Significant time was set aside for participants to revisit their own vocational roots and early formation experiences, helping them reconnect with the inspiration that first set them on their path. Additional inputs on digital culture, cyber safety, child protection, and the lifestyle of Gen Z enriched their understanding of the realities shaping the young people they accompany. The resource team included Fr. Joye James SJ, Fr. Charles Leon (Executive Secretary of VSCR), and Fr. Cyril Victor (Director of the CCBI Media Apostolate).

A pilgrimage to Old Goa, coordinated by Fr. Duming Gonsalves, brought a contemplative depth to the programme, strengthening the bond of shared mission among the participants. During the days of prayer and reflection, the formators collectively discerned a renewed pathway for formation a pathway that calls them to walk together into God’s unfolding plan. Central to this renewed vision is the invitation for every formator to embody the heart of Christ: gentle, patient, attentive, rooted in prayer, and radiating quiet joy and simplicity. This renewed spirit aims to help formators become a healing presence for young people who often struggle with isolation, emotional strain, and digital fragmentation.

Community life emerged as a foundational pillar of this new pathway. It emphasized that a truly formative environment is one where joy, mutual respect, and belonging flourish. The programme underscored the importance of houses where every person is seen, heard, and valued where formators work collaboratively and young candidates feel secure enough to grow in maturity and faith.

The vision for Mission 2033 was further sharpened through specific goals: guiding formees toward inner freedom, intellectual clarity, responsible digital behaviour, and a profound friendship with Christ. The renewed action plan envisions forming missionary disciples capable of reading the signs of the times and responding with courage, imagination, and compassion. Formators were encouraged to cultivate maturity, empathy, resilience, and a generous spirit in every candidate, preparing them for authentic discipleship in a rapidly changing world.
