Jerusalem: The Israel Defense Forces has officially confirmed that an image showing one of its soldiers damaging a crucifix in southern Lebanon is genuine.

In a statement, the army said the incident is real and is being taken seriously. It added that the act does not reflect the values of the military and that a full investigation has been launched.
