 Synod Meeting Commences, Major Archbishop Election Process Begins

The Synod of the Malabar Major Archdiocese commenced its synodal assembly to elect the Major Archbishop.

The Synod Administrator, Bishop Sebastian Vaniyapurackal, announced the initiation of the Synod of the Syro-Malabar Major Archiepiscopal Church's conference.

The election of the Major Archbishop within the specified timeframe is a singular responsibility of this Synod. Bishop Vaniyapurackal expressed hope that, with the guidance of God, the newly elected Major Archbishop would lead the Synod with the ability to address challenges and provide effective leadership.

Mar George Alencherry, who served as the head of the Synod for twelve years, received gratitude for his tireless efforts and leadership. The administrator acknowledged his dedication to the Synod's growth and resilience, emphasizing that the faithful would always remember his contributions.

Bishops Mar Andrews of Ernakulam-Angamaly and Mar Thomas of Gorakhpur bid farewell to the Synod after resigning from their positions. The new Major Archbishop, Mar Mathew Nellikunnil, was welcomed with enthusiasm, coming from the Eparchy of Gorakhpur.

Cardinal Mar Baselios Cleemis, the outgoing President of the Synod, and Mar George Valiamattam, the Secretary of the Synod, extended their gratitude to Major Archbishop George Alencherry for his dedicated service.

Mar George Alencherry, known for his tireless efforts in guiding the Synod through challenging times, received appreciation from the Synod Fathers and the faithful. In his farewell address, he acknowledged the unwavering support of the Synod members and expressed his gratitude for their cooperation.

As the Synod proceedings continued, the Administrator Mar Sebastian Vaniyapurackal, under the spiritual guidance of the Patriarch, led the Synod Fathers in solemnly celebrating the Holy Qurbana and praying the Rosary. The newly elected Major Archbishop would be officially inaugurated after the Synod concludes its proceedings on Saturday, the 13th.

55 Bishops, who have served in various capacities both within India and abroad, are participating in the Synod's deliberations. The Synod Administrator urged all Synod members to pray earnestly for the success of the Synod and for the guidance of God in the election of the new Major Archbishop.

The Synod will conclude on Saturday, the 13th, and the entire Synodal community is earnestly praying for the success of the Synod and the selection of the new Major Archbishop as per the divine will.
