Abolishing teaching posts in aided schools in the name of appointment of differently-abled people is unacceptable

Kochi: In accordance with legal provisions, 4% of positions in aided schools under the Catholic Church have been reserved for individuals with disabilities. However, the government's circular mandating that appointments for these deferred reservation posts be made on a daily wage basis is widely regarded as unjust toward other teaching staff. This issue demands an immediate and fair resolution from the government.

Catholic schools remain committed to employing differently-abled individuals in the reserved positions as outlined by law. Consequently, a memorandum was submitted to the Minister of Education, urging the government to grant permanent appointments for candidates in non-reserved posts and to provide necessary support to ensure the smooth operation of aided schools.

The Bishop's Committee expressed concern that appointing staff on a daily wage basis in non-reserved positions could hinder the efficient management of schools, disrupt children's education, and infringe upon the constitutional and legal rights of other teachers.
